Common questions
My prayer times are different from my mosque's
Mosques use different calculation methods, especially for Fajr and Isha. By default Tahir uses the Tahir standard: Fajr 90 minutes before sunrise and Isha 90 minutes after Maghrib. To match your mosque, go to More › Prayer Times and choose its method (for example Muslim World League, ISNA, Umm al-Qura or Karachi), or set your own. You can also switch between standard and Hanafi Asr there.
I'm not getting prayer reminders
- Turn reminders on in More › Namaz Reminders.
- Check that notifications are allowed for Tahir in iOS Settings › Notifications › Tahir.
- Leave Background App Refresh on for Tahir (iOS Settings › Apps › Tahir), so reminders keep being topped up even if you don't open the app.
- Focus modes and Do Not Disturb can silence reminders. Add Tahir to your allowed apps if you want them to come through.
Does Tahir work offline?
Yes. Tahir saves the next two weeks of prayer times on your phone, so times, reminders and widgets keep working without a connection. It refreshes them when you're back online.
The times are for the wrong place
Tahir needs location access to know where you are. Allow it in iOS Settings › Apps › Tahir › Location ("While Using the App" is enough), then open Tahir. If you've travelled, opening the app updates your times for the new place.
How do I use the Qibla compass?
Hold your phone flat and away from metal, magnets and speakers. If the direction seems off, move your phone in a figure of eight to recalibrate the compass. The Qibla direction is worked out on your phone from your location.
How do I delete my data?
Everything Tahir stores is kept on your phone, so deleting the app deletes all of it. We don't have a copy.
